5 reasons why… High Fidelity is my favourite film
So I kept thinking I’d start this properly, but never really had time until now. “5 reasons why…” is something I thought of one day at work, and I’ve fleshed the idea out a bit since then. Anyway, what better place to start than something that references lists of 5s?
5 reasons why High Fidelity is my favourite film
- The scene where Dick hits Ray in the face with a phone. Ray is a smarmy tosser, and you’re desperate for some comeuppance. The film doesn’t disappoint: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68epYBCtFWI
- This is a more obscure reason, but the fact this is the only VHS I ever bought (and still have) guarantees I have some attachment to this film. Seems appropriate somehow to it on tape when the film itself is still referencing cassettes.
- One of the reasons why I loved Jack Black so much when I thought he could do wrong. Singing “Let’s Get It On” at the end just tops it off. I think he’s best when he’s practically playing himself (here and School of Rock) rather than someone he’s not (Shallow Hal… urgh).
- The only book adaptation I can think of where I prefer the film. As much as I like Nick Hornby, I struggled to enjoy the book as much after seeing the film. Only thing I like better in the book is that you get Rob’s top 5 songs which includes Prince - Little Red Corvette. Good choice Nick.
- Pretty self explanatory:

Bruce Springsteen guest appearance. That is all.
